Musashinokuni Sake Festival 2018

This event is not only from Tokyo breweries, but also more. Enjoy Sake spiritually!

Okunitama-jinja Shrine is one of Tokyo’s oldest shrines with a history of nearly 2,000 years. Located at the center of Fuchu City, it is considered one of the five major shrines of Tokyo along with Meiji Jingu, Yasukuni Jinja Shrine, Hie Jinja, and Mie Shrine. It’s also a popular shrine to visit for New Year’s Hatsumode. About 500,000 people visit each New Year’s.

There is Matsuo Shrine in Okunitama-jinja Shrine where the sake brewing god is enshrined.

“In Japan, sake has always been a way of bringing our gods and people together.”

It isn’t merely for drinking at get-togethers, however; sake also has a special holy significance. Drinking sake is an act of purification, and it is used to bring people and gods together, similar to the role wine plays in Communion at Christian churches. It plays a major role in Shinto wedding ceremonies, as the bride and groom serve it to each other as a symbol of the vows they are making. Sake is often is given out at shrine festivals to worshippers, and participants in those festivals usually have some sake before the actual festival begins.

Ibaraki Jizake Matsuri in Asakusa

28 breweries will get together from Ibaraki. Tasting on the “Yakatabune”.

This event is one of the most popular sake tasting event. This year is held on the “Yakatabune”.

A yakatabune cruise is an unforgettable way to experience traditional Japanese culture. With origins from Japan’s imperial families and members, these ornate pleasure boats give you a unique way to explore Tokyo’s scenic views around the Sumida River, while enjoying some of the finest tastes of Ibaraki and Edo style tempura, just as the Japanese have done for over a thousand years.

Ibaraki is blessed with rich nature and good water supply from five water sources such as the Kuji River system / the Naka River system / Mt. Tsukuba water system / the Kinu River system / the Tone River system.

Since Ibaraki has the most suitable water, rice and yeast for making sake, the number of sake breweries in the prefecture is 40, the largest in Kanto area as of June 2018. Each sake brewery produces its own wonderful sake, optimizing great nature of Ibaraki. How about finding good-taste sake that best suits your palate on the Yakatabune.
